TO BE ALIVE, TO BE HEALTHY
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a rare neurodegenerative
disease with varying prevalence rates worldwide. Recent studies
estimate the global prevalence to be between 4.42 and 5 per
100,000 people.
Given the current world population of approximately 8
billion, this translates to an estimated 350,000 to 400,000
individuals living with ALS globally.

What is Riluzole
Riluzole is a medication used to slow the progression of
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
It was the first drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) specifically for ALS and remains a
cornerstone in the management of the disease.

How it works

Benefits of Riluzole

Riluzole does not cure ALS but can modestly slow its progression.
Survival Benefit:
• Clinical trials show that Riluzole extends survival or the time
before requiring mechanical ventilation by approximately 2–3
months.
• The benefit is more pronounced in the early stages of ALS.
